National Defence Academy Examination​

National Defence Academy is located at Kadakwasla, Pune. Examinations for entry as a Cadet for joining the armed forces as an Officer are conducted twice a year (Apr* & Nov*) by the UPSC. On passing the Exam and SSB Interview, the selected candidates join as cadets at NDA.

Combined Defence Service Examination

Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination is conducted twice a year (Feb* & Nov*) by the UPSC for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy.

AFCAT Examination​

Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The exam is held twice a year (Feb* & Oct*) to select Class I Gazetted officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical).

CAPF (AC) Examination

Central Armed Police Forces Examination is conducted by UPSC once a year (Jul*) for the post of Assistant Commandant.

ACC Examination

The Army Cadet College Wing trains soldiers from the regular army,navy and air force for commission as Officers in the [Indian Army].

Territorial Army Examination​

The Territorial Army (TA) is a part of Regular Army. The role is to assist the Army and assist civil administration. Any male citizen of India and Ex service officer who is medically fit can join between 18 to 42 years of age. An online exam is notified.


The Sainik Schools are a system of schools in India established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under Ministry of Defence. Admissions are done for classes VI and IX based on All India Entrance Examination. For class VI admission, boys aged 10 to 11 years are eligible to write the test; boys aged 13 to 14 are eligible to write the entrance exam for class IX. The test covers mathematics, language and intelligence for class VI, and mathematics, science, social studies and English for class IX.

(Rashtriya Indian Military College)

RIMC is a military school for boys situated in Dehradun in India. Approx 25 cadets are admitted every six months. Admissions are made to Class VIII only on the basis of their performance in an All India Entrance Examination held twice a year In January and July comprising of a written examination consisting of question papers in English (125 marks), Mathematics (200 marks) and General Knowledge (75 marks). Successful candidates are called for Viva test (50 marks). They should also be medically fit. Candidates should not be less than 111/2 years of age but must not have attained the age of 13 on 01 January or 01 July of the term they join.


There are five Rashtriya Military Schools in Chail, Ajmer, Belgaum,Bangalore and Dholpur. Common Entrance Test for admission to class VI and IX is held in December. Admission to Class XI is based on Class X board exam results. For admission to class VI a candidate should not be less than 10 years and more than 11 years of age on 01 Jul of the year of admission. For admission to class IX a candidate should not be less than 13 years and more than 14 years of age on 01 Jul of the year of admission. Paper I consists of Mathematical Knowledge Test and Language Ability Test (English) Paper II comprises General Intelligence Test.
